- Getting Round Whilst on Business in Thailand
If you are travelling around within Thailand then you should either use the overnight trains or domestic flights to get around. Trying to take buses (no matter if they say V.I.P on the front) is time consuming and unreliable for business travellers.
Taxis are an easy way to get around in the bigger cities and if you are feeling adventurous you should try the tuc-tuc’s. Although these are only advisable for short trips.
Useful Information for Business Travellers to Thailand
Thai is the national language of Thailand, but many citizens of the country also speak English. The “wai” is a gesture of respect that is done by putting your palms together, in front of your chest, and bowing slightly. This is done to show respect to a superior, and the higher your hand is placed on your chest, the more respect you are giving.
Thai baht is the main currency and can be exchanged in airports, money exchange centres and in most banks. ATM’s are located in most cities, but you should check before going about charges as you don’t want a nasty surprise when you get home.
There are two annual festivals that engage the whole country; Songkran (April 13-15) and the Loy Krathong (12th full moon). These times are great opportunities to experience much of the Thai culture, but are best avoided if you are on business.
