Koh Samui has an extremely developed road system, in abundance with taxis. When on business travel there are many options for transport. When initially arriving you can arrange to rent a car from the airport or take a taxi to your destination. Though renting a car is a fine option it is far more dangerous as the roads are often very chaotic. As well as this your passport will be requested by the rental agency, never leave your passport, bring a copy of your passport if you intend on doing this.
Taxis are probably the easiest and most regular way of getting around the Island. They are convenient for business travellers as they are readily available all over the Island. However taxis do not run by the meter in Koh Samui so prices should be discussed before proceeding on the journey.
An alternative method is to hire a small motorbike which is the most popular mode of transport as it is quick and convenient. Again be aware that traffic builds up quite heavily on the island so this is could lead to come troubles when on business travel, especially when attempting to reach conferences and meetings quickly.

The currency used is the Thai Baht. Exchange booths are plentiful around the island and especially in the busier areas of Chaweng, Lamai and Bophut. There are also many ATMs scattered around the island for ease of withdrawing cash; as well as this many shops and hotels will offer cash exchange – however, the rates are not as good.
Bophut, Chaweng and Lamai are good for the high end 5 star hotels. They are the busiest parts of the Island and offer many bars and clubs for unwinding in the evening. Chaweng is a lot busier, whilst Lamai is better for smaller bars and pubs. However, be wary of the beach areas late at night, as this is when they become hotspots for crime.
Koh Samui is home to culinary excellence, displaying some of the nicest international and seafood restaurants. These should be explored whilst on business travel and the most popular, with the best reputations can be found in the area of Bophut. Budsaba is also a fantastic place to eat for more upmarket and stylish restaurants.
