It’s no accident that New York sits at the ‘top of the heap’ as the world’s best city to do business. Due to its administrative investments, world-famous ingenuity and the creativity of New Yorkers, this metropolitan is an incontestable trade figure. Far beyond this, the city is a symbol of the American dream, a place of opportunity for all – and the appeal of New York is not without reason.
You may not need any, but here are our reasons for why you should make the Big Apple the hot spot for your next international business event or meeting…
1. Easy to Fly Into
The two main airlines that fly directly to New York are British Airways and Virgin Atlantic. BA have up to 17 direct flights daily from Heathrow to JFK and Newark airports. If you’re looking for that extra luxury, BA also have a Club World only service that flies from London City to JFK where you can clear customs via a touchdown in Shannon, saving you time on your business trip. Meanwhile, Virgin Atlantic offers ten daily non-stop flights from Heathrow.
Both have flat beds on board and flight times that can neatly tie in with your meeting times – just tell us your schedule and we’ll do the rest.
2. Home to Inspiring Startups
Trying to hail a cab in Midtown when it’s raining will give you an idea of why New York is the world’s most competitive city. From a merchant town to a city that’s now host to an incessant rise of startup businesses – we’re talking Google, Microsoft, Tumblr and Buzzfeed – it’s a hub that’s always had a diverse trading mentality.
Startups create new business models, helps reinvigorate the economy and shakes up other industries along the way. Take a continuously growing market, accessible supply chain, good infrastructure, cost-efficient energy, and you have yourself a cocktail that packs a punch on global commerce. It’s no wonder New York is an obvious choice for startup businesses.
3. Conferencing With Views of World Famous Landmarks
Deemed the cultural capital of the world, it’s no surprise that New York venues for meetings and events rank among the world’s top choices. Close to Restaurant Row and Broadway, mix business with pleasure at The Intercontinental Times Square on 8th Avenue – the area is home to the best of both worlds from the razzle-dazzle of Times Square to the down-home hip of the Clinton District. Make your mark in the boardroom at Ink48 (a Kimpton Hotel), sure to impress your delegates with views of the Hudson River and NYC skyline.
Or, for something quite new, try the restored Knickerbocker Hotel in Times Square which has dedicated meeting spaces and, although it’s spent decades as office spaces, now returns to its original state as a luxury property.
4. Business Power Meals
The power meal is an age-old institution meant to grease the wheels of a business deal through some fine food in a first-class atmosphere – a combination which New York has in abundance. If you’re looking to impress a new client, celebrate a merger or just work out a few details away from the office, picking the right venue is invaluable.
Start the day and make it pay with a power breakfast at Balthazar’s Restaurant that harks back to the classic French brasserie of the 20th century and comes complete with an adjacent Balthazar Bakery where the bread is excellent. If it’s a power lunch that attracts your movers and shakers, Michael’s has been an establishment meant to impress clients, seal deals and generally see and be seen. The Japanese fusion cooking at Nobu has made it a Manhattan institution, with its modern and innovative take on Japanese food and high-wattage clientele, while brunch at Joseph Leonard features a selection of Bloody Marys, oysters and even a pastrami sandwich – if that’s your method for morning-after recovery.
