Airlines are quick to clamber over each other to get a hold of the latest passenger airframe. One of the most recent being the ultimate long-haul aircraft that is the Boeing B777-300ER.
The latest edition of the B777 is a win-win product for all: profitability for operators due to being able to fit more passengers on-board, as well as satisfied travellers who benefit from the added comfort of the new fittings. It’s 100 percent digitally designed and has the world’s most powerful engines resulting in the most reliable twin-aisle aircraft, whilst light and durable materials means lower costs and easier maintenance.
Business Class on board the 777 cabin is ‘designed to make every passenger aspire to be a frequent flyer’ (Boeing). Comfort and convenience is at every seat for a more productive and restful flight for both the business and leisure traveller. And carriers are not holding back when it comes to fitting their fleet with the latest in luxury and style.
Who’s coming out on top? We’ll let you decide…
American Airlines
American Airlines’ flagship service is on the B777-300ER. As soon as you’re on-board, the spacious feel will immediately hit you. This is due largely to its clever 1-2-1 reverse-herringbone seat configuration which has all the window seats angled towards the window and the middle seats angled towards each other.
If seat adjustments on other airlines have never quite fitted your exact requirements, then you’re in for a treat here as every component of the seat is individually adjustable. This includes the seat back, head rest and leg rest. So play away to your heart’s content.
A smart feature is the storage cubby that houses the Bose headphones and a vanity mirror so you don’t have to trek all the way to the bathroom (not that it’s far) to carry out some essential grooming. With a seat that reclines to a flat bed, all the space you could need to work and rest, as well as excellent on-board service, American Airlines is leading the US market with their B777-300ER Business Class.
Garuda Indonesia
Garuda Indonesia is somewhat of an underdog in the world of premium travel. It doesn’t have the same brand recognition as some of its other Asian competitors like Singapore Airlines or Cathay Pacific. But through some recent major product overhaul, the national carrier has rebuilt its image collecting some awards along the way (including World’s Best Cabin Crew 2015 – SKYTRAX).
On-board its flagship B777-300ER, you will be pleasantly surprised by the space and understated elegance of the Business Class cabin. The seat converts to a flat-bed that comes with a mattress and direct aisle access whilst the menu, with choice of Indonesian, Japanese and Western dishes, is a highlight of the service.
Another standout feature of Garuda’s Business Class service, though not exclusive to the actual aircraft (but is definitely worth a mention), is the arrivals lounge. An arrivals lounge is like gold-dust in the world of travel as not many airlines offer them. Garuda’s arrivals lounge in Jakarta means you can freshen up and have a coffee or a shower whilst a staff member collects your luggage for you. Now that’s service!
SWISS
SWISS had a flying start to 2016 by taking delivery of its first Boeing 777-300ER in January. Its Business Class seats are designed by London-based agency PriestmanGoode, and offers extra space, storage and greater privacy. Just the entrance itself has a more five-star hotel reception feel to it, providing the perfect prelude to a superior flight.
Flaunting a striking neutral colour palette, the cabin exudes a sleek, contemporary residential feel. Key features like headphone hangers and straps for storing tablets or magazines have been added to create a comfortable and practical environment with further personal stowage to boot. The seats boast ingenious design finishes, like partitions for enhanced privacy, which makes SWISS’s Business Class feel like a slightly smaller version of its First Class. Business Class that feels like First Class? Book me in please!
