Cathay Pacific has hosted a preview of its new Business Class Lounge at Hong Kong International Airport after an extensive refurbishment project.
The Pier Business Class lounge, which is the largest of all Cathay Pacific lounges, occupies a total space of 3,306 square metres in the North West concourse of the airport. Located next to Gate 65, the lounge seats 550 people and offers guests a new feeling of ‘understated luxury’.
Studioilse, the London-based studio responsible for the new design, aimed to create an environment that would make passengers feel relaxed and refreshed, providing them with an overall sense of wellbeing. To align the lounge with Cathay Pacific’s brand ethos of ‘Life Well Travelled’, the designers imagined it as a street with a distinct Hong Kong identity, enabling passengers to enjoy the facilities according to their preferred space.
The lounge experience begins as a street, which is divided into “fast” and “slow” lanes. Upon entering the fast lane, passengers will discover an array of food and beverage offerings, including The Food Hall and The Noodle Bar. The highlight of the Food Hall is a coffee cart inspired by street food carts found around Asia, offering freshly brewed coffee prepared by professional baristas. The Noodle Bar – an iconic feature of Cathay Pacific’s lounges – provides a variety of signature noodles, including Dan Dan and Wonton noodles, Asian-style noodles and Chinese dim sum throughout the day.
The slow lane features a large amount of seating with views through big glass windows and glazed timber screens. Passengers looking to relax in a quiet space can sit back in bespoke Solo Chairs, each equipped with a built-in reading lamp and an individual side table. With this space guests can simply sit out and admire the views of the the airport runway and beyond, or catch up on their work.
Beyond the bustle of the street, passengers enter the Tea House, which is a brand new concept designed specifically for The Pier Business Class Lounge. Located just before the wellbeing area, this is a place where passengers can enjoy a soothing cup of tea served by a tea specialist. This space is ideal for customers who wish to relax after a shower, or simply enjoy a break from the hectic atmosphere of the airport.
Inside the wellbeing area at the end of the lounge, Business Class travellers will discover fourteen shower suites and a relaxation room, featuring low upholstered loungers and footstools.
Combining contemporary Asian elements alongside a focus on warmth and simplicity, the lounge has been fitted with high-quality natural materials such as limestone and cherry wood to create an altogether more natural and timeless appearance. Acoustics have been softened where possible and a considered approach has been adopted in the lighting. To complete the healthier look, an abundance of real plant life adds a splash of colour, while local artworks from Hong Kong artists adorn the walls.
The Pier Business Class Lounge is open from 5:30 am until the last departure and access is available to First and Business Class passengers; Silver and above Marco Polo Club members; members of all tiers who earned lounge passes and/or their friends and family members; and Emerald and Sapphire oneworld members who are departing or transiting in Hong Kong.
