Do you travel for business? While some cities like London, New York or Hong Kong will always be popular with business travellers, there are some new and exotic destinations that are also expected to be popular for those seeking new business deals this year.
According to the 2016 Global Travel Price Outlook report, these are some of the top business locations from the first quarter of 2016, so book your Business Class flights, pack your sunglasses and have your sights set on one of these top destinations:
Mexico
In the Latin American region, countries such as Brazil, Argentina and Mexico have developing business scenes – focusing on building more hotels and improving the infrastructure. Out of these, Mexico looks to have the strongest growth, with a Gross Domestic Product of 3.3%.
When travelling on business in Mexico, we’d suggest visiting Mexico City. Mexico City is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world, with most of the tourist attractions located in the historic city centre. If you have time outside of work, take a stroll through the streets to see the city’s colonial buildings and famous sights such as the National Palace and Metropolitan Cathedral, then walk over to Plaza Garibaldi – the best place to hear live mariachi music. This vibrant city has a fantastic food movement too, with eateries ranging from old school cantinas to high-end restaurants.
In January, the New York Times declared it the number one destination for 2016, so now is good a time as any to book your flights to Mexico City. Get there direct from London on Aeromexico or British Airways – talk to SkyClub for more information about their Business Class products.
Colombia
Colombia is another Latin American country that is expected to do well this year, which the Global Business Travel Association says is down to a rapidly growing middle-class and a relatively stable economy. It’s also one of 2016’s hot new destinations, with diverse landscapes ranging from unspoiled Caribbean coastline to snow-capped Andean peaks and dense Amazon jungle. Twice the size of France, Colombia has varying climates depending on your destination – so it’s wise to pack for all eventualities.
If you’re flying out to Colombia on business it’s important to note that the culture varies across the country. In major cities like Bogotá and Medellín the business culture is more formal, while in smaller cities such as Cali and those on the North Coast, the culture tends to be more relaxed.
India
In the Asia-Pacific region, India’s economy is expected to continue improving, so why not plan some business meetings in destinations like New Delhi or Mumbai?
India is a colourful and vibrant place, but it can also be overwhelming if you’ve never been before. The cities are generally very crowded, and taxi scams aren’t unheard of, so booking private cars to travel around is something we’d highly recommend. If you have the time, take a day or two to explore the city sights – tour guides are inexpensive and very knowledgeable. Many first-time visitors to India like to plan a trip to the Golden Triangle, which consists of visiting Delhi, Agra and Jaipur. From shopping in Jaipur’s bustling bazaars to gazing at the stunning Taj Mahal, a trip to India is one you’ll never forget.
When meeting with potential clients or business partners, try to address them by name and bring lots of business cards, as just about everyone will ask for one. Don’t overschedule yourself, as it can take a while to get between meetings in traffic.
Singapore
A growing favourite amongst business travellers, Singapore is tipped to continue as a popular business travel destination in 2016. With tasty local cuisine, fine restaurants and rooftop bars offering jaw-dropping views, this destination is a fantastic place to travel on business. Not only is it one of the cleanest and safest countries in the world, it’s also a fantastic place to wine and dine clients. Before you go, read our SkyClub ultimate guide to the top foodie spots in Singapore. Our tip for business meetings? Being on time is most important, as is seniority, so always try to greet the oldest person first.
Get there on Singapore Airlines, which is considered one of the best carriers in the skies. Business Class customers are treated to a fine-dining service with ‘Book the Cook’ service, which allows you to pre-order meals before your flight. With such an extensive menu, you’ll be spoilt for choice.
Of course if you’re travelling to any of the above destinations on business you’ll want to get there well rested and ready for your day of meetings ahead, so booking First or Business Class flights is advisable.
